Hello, Movie Buffs!
Over the past 10 years or so Marvel Studios has released over 18 films as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and each new film has proven to be better than it’s predecessor in one way or another. Now with the release of its 19th film, Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Marvel has once again released an amazing film that has far exceeded audience’s and Box Office expectations.
Like many MCU fans I have been looking forward to this film since Age of Ultron (2015) and without spoiling anything there is one way to describe Infinity War, it’s EPIC. An EPIC experience. There are not enough trailers to ever prepare you for what is about to happen in Infinity War. Because of its faithfulness to the comics and its execution as a film, Infinity War is undeniably the best and the most important MCU film to date. The development of the stories and the characters from the previous 18 films helps pave the way for a truly mind-blowing experience, so I do not recommend treating this as a standalone film. And depending upon how invested you are in the previous MCU films will determine how you feel after this film.
Directing brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (Civil War) have done an amazing job in combining 10 years worth of characters and stories into one powerfully dramatic film that is only part one of a two-part finale. Each character is given an adequate amount of screen time without making the story feel rushed or disjointed. The character with the most development is Josh Brolin (Only the Brave) as long building super-villain Thanos. Thanos is the most menacing and complex villain we have seen so far, with James Spader’s Ultron being a close second. He’s is a truly evil villain who is clearly willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goal then reach some form of everlasting peace. He has some rare moments that bring light to his character but his steadfast ambition for his end goal far out ways these few moments of empathy and remorse.
The story takes us on a journey where we get to experience comedic moments, heartbreaking drama, and explosive action sequences that we have never seen before. The respect that the directors have for the MCU fans is admirable because they are willing to bring the audience to a new level of emotion that we have not reached, which is vital for the experience. The theme is uplifting about hope, sacrifice, love, revenge, friendship, forgiveness, and the price of war.
Overall, Avengers: Infity War (2018) is an EPIC experience that has been building for the last 10 years and should no doubt be experienced in theaters as many times as possible. There are not enough trailers in the world to prepare you for what is about to happen and I cannot even begin to imagine what is going to transpire in Avengers 4 (2019 or 2020). This film assumes that every audience member is a fan that has followed the previous 18 films, and if you are then you will this film will blow your mind. But if on the off chance you have not been following the series then you will either be disappointed or confused and that is no one's fault but your own. I recommend every watch the previous 18 films in order before watching this one. Otherwise, you will not be able to experience Infinity War in the way it intends and deserves to be experienced.
P.S. The end credit scene is probably the best of any other MCU film.
